Twitterberry vs Tiny Twitter for the Crackberry

So when you’re one of the few in the world who don’t text message, what do you use to get your Twitter fix? I tested both Twitterberry and Tiny Twitter this week and my verdict is I wish they would merge. Twitterberry is easier to DM people and it also gives you the character count. It also lets you just get just replies instead of a whole timeline. But I could never get the timeline to update–it’d give me one set of tweets but never a second.

The two downsides to Tiny Twitter are that the DM option is located back on the tweet page instead of the timeline–you type the tweet first and then look for who to send it to. Very odd. And it doesn’t count out the characters for you. But Tiny Twitter shows the entire tweet, instead of making you click to get more than 3 words. And most important, it’s easy to get updates. So until something changes, my vote is for Tiny Twitter.

Hi Tracy, I am working on the next rev of tiny twitter and agree that direct messaging needs lots of attention and that is high on the to do list.

Your feedback here is very helpful and if you have any more thoughts please send me an email. kevinc {@} tinytwitter {.} com

I use Twitter Berry, and I like it except for one major issue. I LITERALLY have to hit the “get replies” menu three times before it will show me my replies. It’s the strangest thing. Maybe I need to re-install it to fix it. But if click “get replies” once it will say “no updates available” if I click it again immediately afterward it will still say “no updates available” then if I do it one more time I’ll get my replies. So annoying!

Is there instructions on TinyTwitter and Twitterberry???

  4. tneedham says:

I’m not sure what you mean by instructions. I believe there are some how-to’s on the application’s sites, but I figured them out by just playing with them.

    What is “DM?”

  6. tneedham says:

Sorry, I shouldn’t have assumed everyone would know that! DM is direct message.

Thanks for the comparison! Have you tried the most recent version of TinyTwitter (2.2.6)? It has the character count now and it also changes colors as you get closer to the limit. It’s pretty cool!

    Hi Robyn,

I don’t think that’s what I have. I just looked and don’t see how you tell. I guess you just reinstall it? That would be good news though because Twitterberry hasn’t worked since I changed my Twitter username. I have searched all over for a way to update it or delete and reinstall and can’t find one.

  9. Robyn says:

Yup, the best thing to do I’d reinstall. Your device will most likely ask if you want to install version x.x over version x.y. As long as the second one is a more recent version, you’ll be good. :-)
