Elizabeth--My theory is the naysayers either haven't tried it, haven't gone about it in the right way, or were expecting instantaneous results. Like any other type of relationship--it takes time.

For anyone looking for the scoop on Twitter, I always send them to download the new Twitter Handbook by @CoachDeb and @WarrenWhitlock at www.twitterhandbook.com. But many of the suggestions apply to other social networks as well.

Knowing what I do, I find it funny that people think social media & social networking are fads. Especially since it's the #3-#4 sources of traffic to my site, how I get sguests for my radio show, how I form joint ventures, etc. That's on top of selling product and providing customer service -- and getting some great public twitter/linkedin/facebook testimonials!
