Top 10 Blog Design Mistakes

I listened in on a call with the Blog Squad last week, where they shared the top mistakes they see in blog design. They include FAILING to have:

  1. Good, interesting content
  2. Your name on the main page–and leaving visitors to wonder who is behind the wheel
  3. Photo on either the main page or About Us page
  4. Email subscription form for blog updates
  5. Comments enabled–its best to have as few barriers as possible when it comes to allowing people to have a conversation with you
  6. Call to action to comment on posts
  7. Clear identification of who the blog is for and why they should read it
  8. Link to your main website
  9. Link to your products and services or any clear way for visitors to find out how to hire you
  10. More personal and casual bio on the About Us page (written in the first person) than the one on your website

This is great information Tracy thanks for sharing! These are the type of things I work into my clients blogs when I put them together and into my blog. I recently posted about different types of content to include on your blog in case any of your readers get writers block. You can take a look at: http://bestbiz.typepad.com/bizblog/2008/07/blog-content-id.html

Thanks for your comments Jennifer! I checked out your article and you do have some great content ideas. Sometimes it is just so hard to think of something. I also find that reading other’s posts help tool.
